This release is probably one of the most important in recent years, as it is the first major step in changing some of the basics of our Enfold theme. Every time software is written, a developer must make certain decisions about how this software works. Most of the things they decided when building Enfold worked great for us. But unfortunately, some of those decisions have now started to impact the ability to further improve the topic. That is why at Kriesi they decided to do some general revisions and Enfold 4.3 is the first. This release affects performance in several important ways, and it’s hard to overstate the importance of all those performance changes. So before describing what they did, here’s how it affects the theme.
So what have they changed and why?
In this release they have switched to a “module-based” feature system. Previously, when they added a new option in the backend or a new template builder element, it was enabled for everyone by default and was always loaded. As Enfold grew over time, the list of features to load grew with it and the amount of CSS and JS grew as well. Since only very large sites use Spain Mobile Number Database every feature Enfold offers, this means that many smaller sites load a lot of unnecessary resources. It also means that adding new niche features is usually not a good idea, as it affects all users who do not use the feature in a negative way. They wanted to change that and therefore move to a module-based system.
What news also deserves to be mentioned?
As always there are many changes and improvements in this release, one that I really like. Is the option to use an entire page as a “global template”. The new template builder element called.
